The Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection begins tonight with Rounds 1, 2 & 3
The remainder of the annual draft will be concluded tomorrow.
Based on a first ever OHL Draft Lottery, the Sudbury Wolves will have the # 1 selection tonight.
Yesterday, Sudbury confirmed they will select American forward Quentin Musty from North Jersey
Oshawa and Guelph have the 2nd & 3rd picks and the prevailing wisdom is either Calum Ritchie of Oakville or defender Cameron Allen from the Nationals will be next.
Of the 2 players, whichever one Oshawa doesn’t pick at # 2, will get scooped up by Guelph at # 3.
The Windsor Spitfires have the 4th pick and are expected to choose forward Ethan Miedema from Quinte.
Similar to last year when the Owen Sound Attack aimed for Bryce McConnell Barker, the player the Attack hope for this year in Miedema won’t be there.
Then it gets a little convoluted……………..
If Miedema is not selected by Windsor at # 4, he won’t get by Kingston at # 5.
Colby Barlow of the Marlies & Nick Lardis from Oakville could also fit in here in the Kingston-Peterborough picks, although there’s some suggestion that Lardis may be sliding down the selection ladder.
And for Flint the question is will they take defenceman Tristan Bertucci from the Marlies at # 7
All of which brings us to Owen Sound at # 8…………………
I project there is a dire need for a defender in Owen Sound which makes Bertucci a candidate IF he hasn’t already been taken. An OHL General Manager and another OHL executive suggest that’s not out of the realm of possibility.
Or does Nick Lardis fall to Owen Sound at # 8 ?
Meanwhile, one other source suggests Owen Outwater, a forward from the Oakville Rangers, is in the crosshairs of the Attack. That has a ring to it, doesn’t it ? Owen Outwater, Owen Sound.
So while Musty, Ritchie/Allen/Miedema are expected to go 1-2-3-4, for the Owen Sound Attack at # 8, I’ll bet on Owen Outwater……. unless the unexpected unfolds.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
