If anything came out of the latest Grey-Bruce Board of Health meeting from delegations, it’s a call for audits of the organization.
Three different speakers — some politicians, but not representing their councils — had something to say about how the health unit is being operated and the $600,000-plus salary of Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ian Arra.
Cathy Moore-Coburn, a Georgian Bluffs councillor, called for a “complete and independent financial audit.”
She says she wants to know how the Board of Health is monitoring, tracking and approving the MOH’s 2021 overtime pay.
In addition, Moore-Coburn wants to see an independent third-party human resources review.
It was mentioned earlier that 17 staff members have left the health unit over the last little while, although this number was challenged by board chair and mayor of Hanover Sue Paterson, but no alternative numbers were offered except to say it was far less than 17.
Another speaker Micheline Mann spoke of a petition with 1,400 signatures on it, calling for audits at the health unit.
Mann says “The time for productive dialogue has long passed and we ask … the board … to hire a suitable audit and assessment firm in order that we may all learn and grow.”
Following the presentations, the speakers were told the board will study their concerns and they will reply by letter.
There was no other reference or mention of the concerns of the presenters during the remainder of the regular meeting, Friday, May 28th.
