The medical officer of health for the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit supports a return to the classroom for students across the region.
Dr. Charles Gardner said yesterday that he feels it’s time to get kids back to in-person learning, now that COVID-19 rates have declined and the chances of contact tracing have improved.
Even though there’s only about a month until summer break, Gardner says even a limited amount of time could be very beneficial for kids’ physical and mental well-being.
However, Gardiner adds the control measures that were in place before the shutdown in April would need to remain in effect.
Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. David Williams, has also said he would like to see schools resume in-class learning before the province enters the first step of its reopening plan in mid-June.
The province is expected to make an announcement on schools sometime before the end of this week.
