A $25 million program to help modernize Ontario farms has begun accepting applications.
Agriculture Minister Ernie Hardeman says $22 million of the program will involve a cost-share with farmers, to adopt innovative new technologies.
In an interview with Country 104.9 News, Hardeman says the program is meant to improve efficiency on the farm.
“It will hopefully create a system to make the workers we have be more productive by using technology and innovation to move the line along better,” Hardeman says.
“It is more focused on the new technology we are hoping to create.”
Ontario will also invest in high-impact social projects for agri-food workers as part of this component.
Hardeman says one social project involves the translation of Ontario rules and regulations for farm workers into their language of choice.
Farmers have until June 21st to apply for the “Agri-Tech Innovation Cost-Share Program,” and you can find a link to apply here.
