Our medical officer of health is among the experts warning about the disastrous consequences of celebrating the long weekend and ignoring COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Dr. Charles Gardner from the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit said yesterday that we will end up with a fourth wave extending through the summer if we’re not careful and even though most people tend to travel ahead of Victoria Day, residents need to stay close to home.
He is also asking anyone thinking of visiting the region to cancel or change their plans.
Gardner said while there has been a lot of progress made in tackling the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are not out of the woods yet and there’s still a way to go, especially if we want the stay-at-home order to end and businesses to reopen.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 42 new COVID-19 cases in its latest update, but no additional virus-related deaths.

1/2 The provincial booking system is not yet able to accept second dose appointments only.
Therefore, we have created our own local booking system for those who had their first dose prior to March 17th (when we moved to the provincial booking system). pic.twitter.com/av6cRDhzEQ
