The Towns of Saugeen Shores and South Bruce Peninsula are reminding the community and visitors of current pandemic related restrictions in place ahead of the May long weekend.
In a non-pandemic year, the beachfront communities of Southampton, Port Elgin and Sauble Beach are very popular destinations for people who are looking to enjoy the first warm long-weekend of the year.
But like last year, as the pandemic continues, there are limits to what is open to the public.
The towns say their beaches remain open for walkthrough only, and people are not allowed to gather there.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau says in a statement, “With a holiday weekend coming up, we recognize
that everyone is looking forward to the summer,” adding “Unfortunately, the pandemic is not over and as we work to get more of the population vaccinated, we all need to do our part by respecting the Stay-at-Home order.”
Both towns remind people that by Provincial order, those traveling to their secondary residence, should keep their trip to less than 24 hours for essential reasons like fixing plumbing, or stay there for a minimum of 2 weeks.
They also remind their communities the Province has banned short term rentals except for those who have no other available housing and transient camping is still banned under current Provincial Order.
Restaurants can offer takeout, delivery and drive-through.
Meanwhile, outdoor sports facilities remain off-limits including baseball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, skate parks and any park and recreational areas containing outdoor fitness equipment.
What remains open are parks, outdoor picnic sites, playgrounds, boat launches, fishing from public lands docks/piers, parks & recreational areas, beaches for walkthrough, off-leash dog areas and park benches.
Garage sales and yard sales are not permitted under the order.
The Stay At Home Order is in place until June 2nd.
