Bruce Power is working with the Municipality of Brockton to support a new Regional Fire Training Centre, in an effort to assist volunteer firefighters.
According to a release, the training centre will offer various courses that involved a live fire aspect and is already available to municipal fire departments, which the counties of Bruce, Grey and Huron can use free of charge.
Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody says, “earlier this year, the Ontario Fire College restructured its format to move to a regional approach and the Municipality of Brockton is launching the Fire Training Centre with the goal of providing Brockton and its surrounding regional fire departments with affordable, attainable and accessible training in a safe, professional environment.”
Bruce Power’s fire training facility features propane-fueled props, which produce fire and smoke, to enact a variety of fire situations. Thermal cameras are also placed around the training course that loops feed to a control room.
The main building, which is available for use year-round, has a 50-foot tower for high-angle rescue training, with also other outdoor fire simulators like a car, forklift and transformer.
Vice President of Site Services at Bruce Power Jennifer Edey says, we commend the Municipality of Brockton for taking this initiative to ensure volunteer firefighters get the training they need to keep themselves safe and also protect people throughout our region.”
