Another virus-related death and 40 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the latest update by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.
The latest victim to succumb to the virus was a man from Wasaga Beach between 65 and 79 years of age.
The health unit says so far about 36 per cent of the region’s population has received its first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while about 3.4 per cent of the population has received two doses of vaccine.
It also reported 44 new local cases have screened positive as a variant of concern, with 674 currently active variant cases in the region.
The new cases reported today include:

1 Springwater
1 Wasaga Beach
1 Tay
2 Bracebridge
2 Huntsville
