A fire this afternoon at the Smithy Ltd. on Hwy 169 in Glen Orchard has been extinguished.
Muskoka Lakes Fire Chief Ryan Murrell says it was a small fire that erupted in the front of the business near where the hydro line enters the building. Crews were still on the scene doing overhaul shortly before 3 pm.
Murrell says the building suffered some smoke damage and a bit of fire damage to the mast where the hydro line entered the building.
“Crews were able to keep it contained by keeping the doors shut,” he said. “And it was good work by the people who work there – they called the fire department early and got out of the building. There were no injuries.”
If he had to guess, the Chief estimates damage to be under $10,000 and it’s suspected the small blaze was electrical in nature.
