The Province is suspending the rollout and administration of the first doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Williams made the announcement this afternoon.
“This decision was made out of an abundance of caution due to an observed increase in the rare blood-clotting condition known as vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia linked to AstraZeneca Vaccine,” said Williams.
The Province is currently reviewing data for use options for second doses of the vaccine and is also studying the interchangeability of various COVID-19 vaccines.
Answers to these questions are to come within the next two weeks.
Williams says the right thing to do currently is to still get vaccinated with the vaccine you are eligible to receive.
