A new student start-up program in the area is giving youth the chance to receive grants for self-employment.
According to a Town of Hanover release, the Saugeen Student Start-Up Program is geared to help students develop creativity and business skills.
The Saugeen Connects partnership, consisting of Brockton, Hanover, Minto, Wellington North and West Grey, with the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), created the Saugeen Student Start-Up Program (SSUP) in 2019.
Due to Covid however, the program had to be cancelled in 2020. After some adjustments were made, the program is ready to run again this year for students in the region from Grades 6 to 12 to try self-employment over the summer holidays, from July to August.
If any students are interested in taking part, all they have to do is complete a relaxed business plan, with eligible applicants possibly receiving $150 to help get their idea started or expanded.
In addition, if they post a photo on social media of their business while using the hashtag #saugeenssup and send in a final report, they can receive another $150.
Applications must be sent in no later than 4:30 p.m. on may 7th via the Saugeen Connects website, with successful applicants being notified by May 28th.
