Two men have been fined $3,000 for illegal deer hunting activity in the Huntsville area.
A Huntsville resident was fined $2,000 and handed a one-year hunting license suspension for unlawfully using another person’s deer license and making a false statement to a conservation officer.
A Mississauga man was fined $1,000 for making a false statement to a conservation officer.
The incidents happened on November 15th, 2019 near Huntsville.
Court heard a conservation officer approached the Huntsville man, who was operating an ATV at night.
Blood discovered on the ATV and questioning by the officer led to suspicion about previous hunting activities.
It was determined the man had unlawfully killed a white-tailed deer near his residence and that he hung the deer in the woods overnight and used the deer tag of the other man the next day. The other man was at home in Mississauga at the time. Both gave multiple false statements to conservation officers.
The deer was seized and forfeited to the Crown.
The case was heard on March 3rd in Bracebridge court.
