Both the north and south piers at the Kincardine harbour are off-limits to pedestrian traffic and will remain that way until repairs are made.
In early March, a delegation shared a series of safety upgrades they would like to see at Station Beach and some will likely be implemented this summer but first on the list is fixing the piers.
Parks and recreation policy chair Councillor Doug Kennedy tells Committee of the Whole on April 26th, the piers are in dire need of repairs.
He says it’s important to keep residents and visitors safe.
The work is going to cost $210,000 which will come from Kincardine’s contingency reserve fund.
Parks and recreation director Karen Kieffer says the delegation suggested railings along the north and south piers but before that, repairs to the piers need to take place.
In addition, new signage will be erected this year to warn people of the danger at Station Beach with the rip tides and show where swimming is allowed and not allowed.
Council voted to move ahead with the repairs before the summer season.
Other recommendations of the delegation will be considered in 2022.
