Confusion and disappointment were feelings echoed by some members of Saugeen Shores council, on the news that Kincardine has ended it’s doctor recruitment partnership.
Kincardine council chose to opt out of the deal with Bruce Power and Saugeen Shores.
Bruce Power has subsequently chosen to end the partnership with the two partners.
Reacting to a letter from Bruce Power at the April 26th council meeting, Mayor Luke Charbonneau wondered about where Kincardine was coming from.
The mayor used terms like baffled, disappointing and confusing describing Kincardine’s decision.
Former member of the physician recruitment team for 6 years, Vice Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt says he’s “troubled, bewildered” and he simply doesn’t “get it.”
Earlier we reported to you that Kincardine chose to create its own recruitment team and leave Bruce Power and Saugeen Shores behind.
The move means both communities lose out on $40,000 that Bruce Power donated annually.
Mayor Charbonneau says over the last decade or so, Bruce Power has donated a million dollars to the cause and it produced results for both municipalities.
Bruce Power has indicated it will continue to support the doctor recruitment efforts by offering spousal employment where feasible.
