Huron OPP are investigating a traffic stop conducted by someone impersonating an officer.
Police say a driver was stopped Thursday on Highway 4 just north of Hensall by a vehicle with police-style emergency lights.
According to reports, the impersonator asked the driver their destination, before returning to his vehicle and leaving.
The driver returned home and reported the encounter to OPP, police say.
OPP are reminding the public officers will not conduct traffic stops to determine whether someone is complying with provincial stay-at-home orders.
Should you have questions about the authenticity of a traffic stop, citizens may ask to see an officer’s badge and warrant card.
Some officers and off-duty officers may not be wearing uniforms but they will be able to provide you with the name of their service, detachment, badge number, rank, and produce a badge and warrant card without delay.
A uniformed officer may be requested to attend the location should the need arise.
