Development activity in Owen Sound continued at a strong pace in the first quarter of 2021.
According to a report by the city’s Chief Building Official Kevin Linthorne detailed at a recent Community Services Committee meeting, more than 38 building permits were issued in March with a total approximate construction value of $5.04-million.
The report says year-to-date construction value in Owen Sound is over $9.4-million, compared to $3.2-million during the first three months of 2020.
The city has collected more than $93,000 in building permit fees through the end of the first quarter of 2021, up from around $40,000 during the same period in 2020.
Among the major permits the city issued in March are the conversion of commercial space at 837 2nd Avenue East to eight residential unit apartments, the demolition of the existing rectory of St. Mary’s Church and alterations to 842 2nd Avenue East for a new take out ice cream store.
In 2020, total construction value in Owen Sound topped $66.4-million — the second highest level recorded in the past 20 years.
