Orillia area charities and non-profit organizations are reminded that applications for the next intake of the City’s General Grant program are being received until May 17th.
“Each year, the City of Orillia supports a variety of local community groups through its grant program. The program often helps groups get new activities off the ground, supports long-standing groups that enrich our community, or help leverage further funding from other levels of government. During the pandemic, the grant programs have become another way in which the municipality is supporting these organizations throughout these difficult times,” said Mayor Steve Clarke.
The program focuses its support on community-based, volunteer-run activities aimed at enriching the quality of life of residents of Orillia. This includes:
- Assistance with general operating expenses.
- Rental fees for use of municipal property.
- Events of municipal, provincial or national significance.
- Projects with a social, cultural or economic benefit.
Applicants must be a registered charity or non-profit organization to be eligible for funding and demonstrate they have COVID-19 safety measures in place. The program provides up to $1,500 in funding and has three intakes: Feb. 15, May 15 and Oct.15. Should these dates fall on a weekend, the deadline is moved to the next business day.
The City has two funding streams administered by the Grants Committee. Festival and event organizers must apply to the Oct.15 deadline using the appropriate application for the Partnership Program for Cultural Festivals and Events. All other eligible organizations can apply to the general grant program.
Guidelines and application forms can be found orillia.ca/grants.
