The Simcoe-Muskoka District Health unit is reporting 108 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Charles Gardner says 57 of the cases are male and 51 female.
46 of the cases are in Barrie, four are in Wasaga Beach.
Gardner says the region has seen an increase in cases in the past weeks associated with Easter Gatherings.
“We continue to see cases that arose from gatherings over the Easter Weekend,” he said. “So 19 per cent of the cases that have occurred since April the 6th have been associated with a non-household gathering or gathering of people beyond just the household.”
Gardner says 146,000 vaccine doses administered in the region so far.
Notably, Gardner says the percent positivity rate is now higher in Muskoka than it is in Simcoe.
“One thing I would note is that the percent positivity has increased quite substantially in Muskoka and for the first time in this pandemic, the percent positivity is actually higher in Muskoka than it is in Simcoe,” he said. “So Muskoka is at 6.1 percent, up from 4.0 percent a week ago vs Simcoe at 5.2 percent (currently).”
There have been 9,508 COVID-19 cases in Simcoe-Muskoka since the start of the pandemic.
218 people have passed away in the region since its start too, including six in the past week.
There were two deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
