Two local residents are receiving the Order of Orillia today, which recognises volunteerism in the community.
Michael C. Jones and Erin Price are the recipients. The presentation is happening at the Orillia Council Meeting.
For over 20 years Jones (below, left), who is a retired civil engineer has helped a large list of organizations including Hillcrest Lodge Seniors’ apartments, the Orillia Fall Fair and the Alzheimer’s Society amongst others.
Other beneficiaries of Michael’s volunteer service include the Champlain Seniors Service Club, Prostate Cancer, Orillia Youth Centre, Orillia Fall Fair, the Kiwanis Auction, Sustainable Orillia – Housing Sector and Energy Sector, Couchiching Conservancy, and the Scottish Festival. the City says Michael’s expertise has been invaluable in the community as a volunteer, organizer, fundraiser, board member and executive member of several community organizations.
Erin Price (below, right) is a retired teacher who has volunteered in the area for over 35 years.
Beneficiaries of Price’s volunteerism include the ‘Green Again’ second-hand store,
Canadian Cancer Society, Hospice Orillia and the Green Haven Shelter for Women, Lighthouse Soup Kitchen and Shelter, Elizabeth Fry Society, Brechin Legion, Uplifting Blessing, Joyland Beach Community Centre’s Restoration project, St. James’ Church ‘Pennywise Store’, Orillia’s Leacock Museum, and the OPP Children’s Safety Village.
The SPCA Orillia Animal Centre has also been a focus of Erin’s for more than 20 years.
“On behalf of Council, I would like to thank Michael and Erin for their dedication,” says Orillia Mayor Steve Clarke. “Volunteers are a pillar of our caring and cooperative community, and these recipients are a testament to that. Both Michael and Erin have enriched the lives of the citizens of Orillia through their volunteer efforts, making our community a better place.”
