Doug Ford speaks at a press conference.
Premier Doug Ford announced today the provincewide stay-at-home order will be extended for an additional two weeks, while several other new restrictions will take effect in response to surging Covid cases and hospitalizations.
The extension of the stay-at-home order means it will remain in place until at least May 20.
The Premier says outdoor gatherings will now be “strictly” limited to members of your own household only, but those who live alone can join with one other household.
Ford says all outdoor recreational amenities will also be restricted, such as golf courses, basketball courts, soccer fields and playgrounds.
Non-essential construction projects will be shut down.
Further capacity limits will be introduced on big-box retail stores.
As of next Monday, Ford says places of worship will be capped at a maximum of 10 people indoors.
New travel restrictions between other provinces and Ontario will also begin next week.
“Beginning Monday, we’re setting up checkpoints at all inter-provincial borders,” Ford says. “We’ll be limited access to border crossings between Ontario and the provinces of Manitoba and Quebec, with exceptions such as work, medical care, or transportation of goods.”
