The Federal and Provincial governments have promised millions to local school boards for building upgrades.
The Simcoe District Public School Board will receive $17 million, while the Simcoe-Muskoka Catholic School Board will receive $10 million.
The Trillium Lakelands Public board will get $7.4 million and the Nipissing Parry Sound Catholic Board will receive $4.5 million.
“From improving air and ventilation systems to handwashing systems to touchless contact doors these are all pragmatic investments that can make a difference now and into the future,” said Education Minister Stephen Lecce.
In total, the funding will support over 9,800 projects at almost 3,900 schools and co-located childcare facilities across 74 school boards throughout Ontario.
This funding will have a positive impact on protecting thousands of students, teachers, and staff from COVID-19 by providing a safe learning environment, improved air quality, heating, ventilation, and air cooling systems.
The Government of Canada is investing $525.2 million towards the projects through the COVID-19 Resilience Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The Government of Ontario is contributing more than $131.3 million to the projects.
