The Multicultural Association of Perth-Huron (MAPH) wants the area’s newcomers to know they have a resource in the fight against COVID-19.
Association Director Geza Wordofa says many newcomers to Huron and Perth counties have felt isolated during the coronavirus pandemic, prompting them to move to urban centres closer to others of their culture.
With the isolation, Wordofa says, comes a distrust of vaccination efforts.
Wordofa tells Country 104.9 News the MAPH is offering to transport newcomers to their COVID-19 vaccination appointment, or simply meet for a discussion about the importance of receive the vaccine.
The transport service comes as the MAPH begins staffing its mobile office in Goderich, twice weekly.
Wordofa says the office is able to help newcomers print documents, fill online applications, or discuss efforts to combat the novel coronavirus.
Meantime, new Canadians in Huron and Perth counties can call the MAPH for transport to a vaccination clinic at 1-888-910-1583.
