A couple from outside the area has been arrested by Owen Sound Police as a result of a credit card fraud investigation and face over 50 charges.
According to Owen Sound Police, on April 6, members of the Criminal Investigation branch arrested the couple at an east-side hotel, in which the investigation revealed the couple being responsible for several fraudulent credit card transactions that victimized several Owen Sound businesses as well as those from York Region.
City Police say upon arrival to apprehend the couple, officers found numerous credit cards and credit card data written on pieces of paper that were not issued to them, and many were used to fraudulently obtain a hotel room and large-scale items like furniture and electronics.
Police also identified that in mid-March the couple had broken into ten storage units in the middle of the night in which property was stolen.
Officers were able to recover and return more than $3,200 worth of purchased property from a local business that was obtained by fraudulent credit cards.
As a result of the investigation, a total of 58 credit card fraud related charges were laid against the couple, as well as break and enter, theft and possession of stolen property.
The couple, both from British Columbia, made a bail court appearance and have since been remanded into custody.
