Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

Normally at this time of the year, lacrosse at every level in our region would be underway.
Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse did have a free skills & drills clinic for box players scheduled for Saturday at the Kilsyth Arena…… but the restrictions imposed by the provincial government a week ago scraped those plans.
Even with a Minor program in place, it was my understanding that the signature Father’s Day Weekend Classic Tournament would not be a go and at this late date that would be a certainty.
Along with Minor Lacrosse, usually at this time of the year weekends are utilized for Training Camps for both the Senior Bug Juice NorthStars and the Junior B NorthStars.
Checking the 2019 Ontario Lacrosse Jr B schedule the regular season 2 years ago started on….April 12th.
So needless to say a second consecutive OLA Junior B season is in jeopardy
To that end, the Junior B clubs recently staged a ZOOM conference from which a number of issues arose;
– The majority of the league either doesn’t have any return to play action planned or are under tight restrictions.
– In a lot of cases teams don’t have arena availability or operational funds.
– There was talk of a potential season starting in late June or early July but…..
& The CLA has delayed any decision on 2021 National Championships until early May so that could impact the 2021 Founder’s Cup.
Finally, from an Owen Sound standpoint, the General Manager’s position remains vacant but there is interest, plus floor time through May and June was booked to help players shake off the rust and get some exercise but even that remains a question mark with Week 1 of the 4 week Ontario Shutdown not quite concluded.
For Pete’s Auto Body I’m Fred Wallace
