Over $700,000 in funding has been provided for the SkillsAdvance Ontario program at the Owen Sound YMCA.
This funding follows an announcement from Ontario Minister of Labour Monte McNaughton of the government’s investment in the YMCA’s Essential Skills Supportive Care Assistant program, which provides employers with ready and skilled workers.
Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walked calls it excellent new for residents and businesses in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound. “This funding helps employers to train the skilled workers they need for their business and create job opportunities for our local workers. This is truly a win-win and I want to thank Minister McNaughton for this investment in our community.”
McNaughton said that this program will provide up to 100 laid-off workers with the soft skills and technical training needed to find jobs in the health care industry. “Once training is completed, graduates enter paid work placements, getting their foot in the door and taking the first step in their new careers.”
The funding for this project was established in the province’s 2021 budget in order to assist workers affected by the pandemic to upgrade their skills and find employment.
