Parents and Guardians in Ontario will now see double the previous support they received via the COVID-19 Child Benefit.
Today Education Minister Stephen Lecce confirmed Ontario will provide $400 for every child up to Grade 12 and $500 for every child up to age 21 with special education needs.
Effective April 26th, it will automatically go to all parents who successfully applied for the last round of funding under the Support for Learners Program, which provided $200 for every child up to Grade 12 and $250 for those with special education needs.
“This is going to help make a difference – nearly $2 billion dollars in supports – we know it will,” said Lecce.
Lecce adds that for parents who haven’t applied in the past, the new online applications will open on May 3rd.
Also – costs for childcare are rising, so there will also be an expansion of the Child Care Access and Relief Credit for parents, which is getting a 20 per cent top-up.
This will result in roughly $1,500 for an average family in Ontario.
