OPP say a suspicious person investigation is over and that it was a case of misunderstanding.
Monday just after 3 pm a young person was walking their dog on Line 3 in Oro-Medonte when a vehicle passed by slowly.
It then stopped and reversed directly beside the complainant.
Fearing for their safety, they fled to a nearby residence and asked for help.
The neighbour called police and also the nearby Shanty Bay Public School which initiated a hold and secure in response to the possible threat which was later lifted.
Police eventually located the vehicle and spoke to two people.
Turns out the driver was reversing the vehicle to view a nearby property and while he did see the young person, he didn’t engage them in any way.
Orillia OPP’s School Resource Officer Ted Dongelmans says while this case turned out to be a misunderstanding, he commends everyone involved for responding the way they did.
“In the end, we were able to determine that there was no threat and everyone went home safe,” he said.
