In local COVID-19 numbers, Public Health reported eight new cases Sunday.
Three residents of Owen Sound tested positive as well as one in Chatsworth, Georgian Bluffs, Huron-Kinloss, Kincardine and Southgate.
Public Health says with two resolved cases Sunday and six resolved Saturday, there are 62 active known cases including 16 active variants.
They say there are now 300 high-risk contacts. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra has released a statement saying, “It takes a tremendous amount of effort to manage this number of high risk contacts. This number will keep increasing, unless we limit, starting today, our unprotected encounters with all people outside of our own households.”
On Friday, Arra released a statement about an imminent surge in cases. Arra says they have seen a number of cases specifically related to public settings including personal care settings, exercise related group activities and outbreaks in healthcare settings, and restaurants/pubs.
Two people are hospitalized in Grey and Bruce due to COVID-19 and two Grey Bruce residents are hospitalized outside of the region.
Over the course of the pandemic, four people from Grey Bruce have died from the virus.
24,777 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered locally to date.
Meanwhile Public Health is working to address a probable case of COVID-19, associated with St. Anthony’s School in Kincardine, and one bus route. They say their assessment to date indicates transmission did not take place within the school environment.
They’re also working to address a probable case of COVID-19, associated with Kincardine District Secondary School, as well as Edge Hill Country School in Durham, and Harvest Canadian Reformed School.
They say in all those cases there’s no evidence of transmission in the school environment and note there are no declared outbreaks in any childcare centres or schools in Grey Bruce.
