Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

The launch of Major Lacrosse in Owen Sound has been clumsy on a number of levels.
First, a faction of loyalists in Brampton are working hard to interrupt and impede the early steps of the Owen Sound franchise which was once the Brampton Excelsiors.
The irony is these 416-905 guys apparently are working harder at this initiative than they ever did at maintaining the Excelsiors franchise when it existed in Brampton.
Elsewhere, a week or so ago I checked the Major Series Lacrosse Draft page and saw in the draft order that Brampton cum Owen Sound had the 1st pick in the 2nd round which would be # 7 overall.
When I reported that, I was quickly tuned in that the ” draft order ” on the page was listed alphabetically ( Brampton, Brooklin, Cobourg, Oakville, Peterborough, Six Nations ) and not in order of selection.
?
Who does it that way ?
Naturally, the numerical draft order on the web page was inserted in short order.
Later, I was also perplexed that the selection of players was on Twitter but not on the Major Series Lacrosse web site.
On another topic, Owen Sound and Peterborough made a transaction prior to the draft.
The deal was quickly confirmed by Owen Sound General Manager Steve McCarthy and almost as quickly Major Series Lacrosse announced via Twitter that the deal was pending league approval.
Again….?
And finally, 4 players connected to the Owen Sound franchise were deemed to be free agents by the Ontario Lacrosse Association due to apparent non-payment of the affiliate team agreement.
Those 4 players could conceivably play in Owen Sound when Major Lacrosse commences, but there’s a better than average chance they won’t.
Major Lacrosse will be good in Owen Sound. I have no doubt that it will be a welcome addition to our sporting and entertainment options.
But………the sequence of events in recent times look cluttered and somewhat clumsy at every level and really didn’t present the best professional first impression.
For Pete’s Auto Body I’m Fred Wallace
