Public high school students in Huron and Perth counties will not be required to pass the province’s literacy this year in order to graduate.
In an update from the Avon Maitland District School Board, students and parents were notified “the Ministry of Education has waived the literacy graduation requirement for all graduating students.”
“Also, this school year, the Ministry of Education is field testing a new, online format and has asked for boards to voluntarily participate.”
The news follows a similar move in 2020, when the province cancelled all standardized tests in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) also says students in the AMDSB will not participate an in-person Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) “field test,” scheduled between March 23rd and June 4th.
“This decision was made, first and foremost, in an effort to prioritize the well-being of students and to support the continuity of learning during the Pandemic,” the AMDSB says.
“In the 2021-22 school year we will fully participate in the OSSLT as directed.”
