Despite some problems with the 2018 local election results, Kincardine will stick with phone and internet voting.
In 2018, the server became overloaded and crashed, delaying results for some time.
Kincardine Clerk Jennifer Lawrie, in a report to councillors on March 15th, says nevertheless when it comes to cost, phone and internet voting is more efficient than mail-in voting.
She says in 2014 when mail-in balloting was last done, it cost the municipality $74,000.
Four years later when phone and internet voting was introduced, it only cost $53,000.
As a result staff is recommending phone and internet voting again in 2022,which was approved by Kincardine councillors.
White says anyone who does not have access to a computer or to a telephone, a voter help centre will be set up at the municipal administration centre.
Voters in senior centres will also be given assistance, so that they may vote as well.
By the way, the next municipal election will be held, October 24, 2022.
