The Queen Street Promenade in Kincardine is coming back this summer.
This after survey results on the 2020 event were favourable overall.
The concept calls for Queen Street to be closed to traffic from Durham Market Street North to Durham Street in the south, which is an extenstion from last summer when the closure extended to Lambton Street.
The closure will be each weekend, beginning June 25 closing from Friday at 5pm to Sunday at 9pm.
On holiday weekends, the closure will include the holiday Monday as well.
At Monday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, Mayor Anne Eadie says she suspects they will still be under Covid-19 protocols and she believes, the promenade idea “really helps the businesses out.”
Councillor Gerry Glover in supporting the move says, “If we don’t help the businesses downtown, there won’t be any businesses downtown.”
Councillor Dave Cuyler who called the plan last year, more of an inconvenience for full time residents says the promenade is not necessary and the street shouldn’t be closed at all.
In a recorded vote, all of council voted in favour of the promenade this year, except Councillor Cuyler.
Councillor Doug Kennedy abstained, citing a conflict of interest and Councillor Laura Haight was absent.
