Some issues are plaguing the provincial vaccine booking system on its first day of operation.
The Grey Bruce Health unit says it has received reports from individuals unable to use the provincial online and toll-free phone line vaccine booking system.
Public Health says the online portal does not reflect the current vaccine clinic schedule in Grey Bruce, and this may result in errors in appointments being booked.
Meantime, the provincial phone system is reportedly sending clients to the Grey Bruce Health Unit to book appointments.
“However, the provincial system is not set up to allow the Grey Bruce Health Unit to make appointments and the resulting calls are overwhelming our phone system,” a statement from Public Health explains. “Additionally, some callers are being directed to the Simcoe Muskoka 211 Community Connections helpline, which has no information on Grey Bruce.”
The Health Unit is urging those trying to use the booking service to not call Public Health or your healthcare provider for an appointment, even if directed to by the provincial booking operator.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit says it is working with the province to address these issues. Other health units are experiencing similar issues.
The province’s vaccine booking system launched this morning. It is reserved for those age 80 and over and other priority groups eligible at this time.
