OPP say a 34-year-old Hanover man is in custody on multiple charges after a police chase that took place overnight between Kintail and Kincardine.
According to police, a Huron OPP officer spotted an unplated, de-commissioned ambulance travelling southbound on Kerry’s Line near Kintail just prior to midnight.
The officer turned his police lights on and signalled the vehicle to pull over. The driver allegedly responded by driving into the side of the police cruiser.
OPP say the suspect vehicle then headed northbound on Highway 21, leading officers on a police pursuit out of Huron County and into Bruce County.
Police utilized a spike strip near Pine River to try and stop the car, but say the driver just kept going on rims.
OPP say as the vehicle approached Kincardine a passenger inside opened up the rear door and started throwing “metal objects” at the police cruisers giving chase.
The car chase came to an end near the intersection of Highway 21 and Broadway Street (Highway 9), just after the suspect vehicle collided with three police cruisers.
OPP say two occupants in the de-commissioned ambulance immediately fled into a nearby swamp area.
Police officers set up a containment area and commenced a search for the two suspects. The West Region Emergency Response Team and OPP Canine Unit were on scene to assist.
At around 1:30 a.m. early Saturday morning, police say one the suspects was located hiding underneath a boat in a backyard on Sutton Street in Kincardine.
OPP continued searching the area for the second suspect, but he was not located.
After confirming the identity of the man brought into custody, police say he was wanted by Hanover Police for a theft of motor vehicle.
Police have charged 34-year-old Blake Tisdale of Hanover with numerous offences, including dangerous operation, assault a peace officer with a weapon and flight from peace officer.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Huron OPP or Crime Stoppers.
