The Sauble Beach Community Centre is receiving a just over $54,000 in grant funding from the province.
Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker says it’s part of a province wide $14.3 million investment to support nearly 300 Seniors Active Living Centre programs in 2020-21.
Seniors Active Living Centre operators will use the funds to help local seniors stay safe and socially connected through virtual and remote programs.
This year’s investment will focus on virtual programs like teleconferences, online videos, one-on-one phone calls to help seniors stay connected from home.
It will also support programs like Interactive telephone-based group programming for socially isolated seniors and people with disabilities, as well as online educational programs such as tax clinics, technology assistance, health and wellness, and COVID-19 information.
Walker says in a statement, “These challenging times have created obstacles for seniors to enjoy the quality of life they deserve,” adding, “That is why our government providing a grant of $54,014.41 to the Sauble Beach Community Centre.”
The Province says the seniors population in Ontario is the fastest growing age group. By 2023, there will be 3 million Ontarians over the age of 65.
