For the second day this week, no new virus-related deaths have been reported by the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit.
However, it did announce another 39 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday and the region’s first case of the South African strain of the virus.
That means all three COVID-19 variants have now been found in our region.
The SMDHU says to date, 232 local cases have been tested positive for the COVID-19 variant of concern UK B.1.1.7 (UK), 4 cases have tested positive for the P.1 variant of concern (Brazil), 1 case has tested postive for the B.1.351 variant of concern (South Africa) and an additional 473 cases have screened positive (awaiting confirmatory testing).

1 Penetanguishene
1 Wasaga Beach
1 Collingwood
2 Huntsville
2 Bracebridge
