Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.
Pete’s Auto Body; because we care about our community……
Plans, contingency plans and revised plans are the order of our lives in this era.
In the sports world, we’ll use fastball as an example.
The Owen Sound Fastpitch Association formally announced this week they will be the host organization for the Ontario Amateur Softball Association Under 23 Elimination Tournament.
The OASA U23 will be conducted at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound July 9th-11th weekend.
The results of that weekend will determine which teams will represent Ontario at the Softball Canada Under 23 Championship Tournament in Saskatoon.
The U23 Canadians will be staged August 4th-August 8th at Saskatoon, if, IF, everything unfolds as projected.
In the COVID-19 times that we exist in, sports, especially at the amateur level are at the mercy of the pandemic.
There’s no massive corporate sponsorship money and certainly no major TV deal to propel events like this to be conducted.
Witness the Softball Canada Under 23 Championships which initially were scheduled for Carp, Ontario this Summer.
You might remember, and those connected to the Owen Sound bid certainly do, that Owen Sound was in competition with Carp to hold the event and after a significant pause in the process, Carp won the bid.
In somewhat of an irony, the Carp host committee announced they have decided to defer to 2022 to host the National Under 23 Tournament in the face of COVID-19.
Plans. Contingency Plans. And revised plans.
For Pete’s Auto Body I’m Fred Wallace
