Hanover Police made a number of arrests this past week.
Police Chief Chris Knoll says on Twitter, officers arrested a 48-year-old old man of no fixed address for breaking out of a business early this morning. He says investigators determined the suspect spent the night in the business and fled upon arrival of the staff. The suspect was arrested within minutes and remains in Police custody. Knoll says the suspect has warrants for his arrest held by Guelph Police.
Knoll also says on Wednesday (March 3rd) officers were called to reports of a wanted person on 10th St. Knoll says police in the area located another wanted person resulting in a brief foot chase, according to Knoll’s tweet, “The suspect was no match for Constable Speedy Gonzalez,” He says a 24-year-old suspect was arrested and turned over to OPP on their charges.
Knoll also tweeted about the arrest of a 36-year-old Chesley man on an outstanding Hanover warrant for passing counterfeit money. He says the suspect also faces a new charge of possession of a stolen snowmobile and was later released from police custody on a release order with conditions.
Meanwhile, Knoll says this week, officers had been investigating thefts from porches on back-to-back days Monday and Tuesday on 9th Street near 7th Avenue. Knoll took to Twitter to ask the public to be on the alert and to call police if they saw a suspicious person on area porches. The appeal to the community appears to have aided in the investigation as Knoll tweeted Thursday “HPS arrested a #PorchPirate. His ship was sunk with assistance of our followers. A 51-year-old Hanover man is facing a slew of charges including breach of his community sentence order.”
Knoll adds on Twitter, “If they like packages, we would love to give them a package deal complete with handcuffs, a tour of our cell block, fingerprints, mug shot and a court date.”
