Today, Wasaga Beach Town Council passed a motion calling on the province to return the region to the Red – Control level of the COVID-19 Response Framework.
“Since the announcement late Friday that the region would return to the Grey-Lockdown designation on Monday, we have struggled to understand the rationale,” Mayor Nina Bifolchi said. “We have also heard from businesses and residents who are just as puzzled. There simply doesn’t appear to be the evidence for such a shift. The return to the Grey zone is harmful to business owners and our residents in so many ways and is simply unacceptable. Our hope is the province will give serious consideration to returning us to the Red – Control level.”
In addition, council is asking that the province provide greater notice when a region’s framework is changing.
“Notice late on a Friday afternoon of a change coming Monday appears last-minute and is certainly not fair to our community. Businesses and residents must scramble so they can be prepared,” Mayor Bifolchi said. “Our job as council members is to speak up for our community. That is why on Friday night I shared our concerns about the shift to Grey-lockdown in an e-mail to Premier Ford as well as Dr. Charles Gardner, our chief medical officer of health, and it is why council passed the motion it did earlier today.”
