The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit says it plans to open several COVID-19 vaccine clinics, starting on Monday.
The medical officer of health, Dr. Charles Gardner says more details will be released later this week, including how residents can book an appointment.
He says there will be three clinics located between Barrie and Innisfil, two in Muskoka, two in North Simcoe, one in Collingwood, another in Wasaga Beach, three in South Simcoe and 1 in the Orillia area.
However, he adds the clinics will only be offering vaccinations to the provincially-mandated priority groups.
They include:
- Residents, staff, essential caregivers, and other employees of congregate living settings (e.g., long-term care homes and retirement homes) that provide care for seniors as they are at higher risk of infection and serious illness from COVID-19;
- Health care workers, including hospital employees, other staff who work or study in hospitals, and other health care personnel;
- Adults in Indigenous communities, including remote communities where risk of transmission is high; and
- Adult recipients of chronic home health care.
Gardner says he is also considering asking the government to put our region back into lockdown as COVID-19 variants continue to spread and he believes a third wave is on the horizon.
