Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Joe Biden have held their first face-to-face virtual bilateral meeting.
The pair spoke about a number of issues today, including tackling climate change, rebuilding their economies, advancing diversity, improving national security measures and fighting COVID-19.
Trudeau also asked for more help in bringing Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig home from China, which Biden agreed to, saying “Human beings are not bartering chips .”
The pair was arrested in China in 2018 on espionage charges, shortly after Huawei CEO Meng Wanzhou was detained by authorities in British Columbia on an extradition charge from the United States.
