Some tentative steps have been taken in the local sports world.
Over the last weekend, the Owen Sound Ice Hawks returned to hockey with their various divisions of Girls Hockey.
Meanwhile, the Owen Sound Junior Attack are resuming their hockey programs this week.
In both cases, it’s not the usual agenda of activity, certainly the rep and travel teams remain muted, but youngsters in both hockey organizations are on the ice which is a positive start to hopefully an upward swing in our return to normal.
As for the Owen Sound Attack and the Ontario Hockey League, they gave me an update in 2 sentences last week; ” Nothing to tell you. Nothing scheduled. ”
So we look ahead from late February to Spring time.
Among the eager to return faction are the two local auto racing tracks; Full Throttle Motor Speedway & Sauble Speedway.
At Full Throttle in Varney, they’ll have 2 weeks of practice laps beginning in May with their season opener scheduled for Saturday May 15th & followed by the Swap Meet on Sunday the 16th.
Plus, Sauble Speedway released their official schedule for 2021 last week.
The Sauble track will begin practice sessions on June 5th.
Opening night at Sauble Speedway is set for Saturday June 19th and will be highlighted by a pair of OSCAAR events.
It’s not perfect. And truthfully, it’s not written in stone, but Minor Hockey is back on the ice and the wheels are in motion for the local auto racing season.
