Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

The local golf season seems a long way off based on the current landscape and temperatures.
However, dreaming of golf season is a perpetual event in our region, probably from Thanksgiving to March Break on an annual basis.
Saugeen Golf Club made news this week with the announcement that they will be hosting two major events; one in the short term, the other a few days away on the golfing calendar.
The first event will be the Next Gen Tournament scheduled for May 28th-30th.
As the name suggests, this event features all the up and coming golfers in Canada; those about to depart for major university programs, those in major golf programs and those on the cusp of becoming pro golfers
Through the years prominent names like Brooke Henderson, Corey Connors and MacKenzie Hughes have all competed at the Next Gen Tournament.
Of course, who knows what the landscape in the province will be come May, but Saugeen proved last year when they hosted the Ontario Juniors they are well equipped to successfully host a significant event with COVID-19 protocols in place.
A little further down the road, Saugeen Golf Club has also been awarded the hosting rights for the 2024 Golf Canada Senior Men’s Amateur Championship
This tournament, which will be staged in September of 2024, is an international event will feature golfers from every province of Canada, close to 2 dozen Americans along with a handful of players beyond North America
It will be a day or so before anyone plays 27 at Saugeen, a little longer before the Next Gen Tournament is conducted and certainly a lot longer before the Golf Canada Senior Men’s Championship is staged at the course, but for Saugeen Golf Club there’s plenty of anticipation in the air and on the fairways.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace
