Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.
Pete’s Auto Body; because we care about our community……
I’d fully planned on taking today off.
In truth, I was taking today, tomorrow and Friday off.
You might think that this was simply a plan to extend the long Family Day Weekend into a 6 day break.
…..and you’re partially right.
But initially, while not planning on working at CFOS, my assumption was that today and the following 2 days were going to be extremely active in Owen Sound.
Now, nobody in an official capacity will confirm this, but the city was to be the host site for a spectacular winter event.
As I understand it, although nobody will admit it, every possible venue in the city was to be utilized as part of the festivities; The Downtown Core, the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre, the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre & Y, Harrison Park and various other sites that are frequented for social activities.
This was more than a concept, and again while no one will say anything for the record, the event host and sponsors were from outside of the city and intended to use Owen Sound as their stage to present their product and celebration.
The I’s were dotted and the T’s were crossed on both sides from what those fairly close to the scene were whispering.
But like many events in Owen Sound and around the world over the last 11 months, the plans were kiboshed.
My assumption is you can’t have a huge congregation of people flocking to the prominent areas of any community when a global pandemic continues to linger and make a negative impact, no matter how tiny it seems in Owen Sound and Grey-Bruce.
So, no days away this week. No festival or extravaganza. Just the same cycle we’ve been grinding through since March of 2020.
Maybe Next Year.
Hopefully Next Year.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace
