Test results coming back to the Simcoe Muskoka Health unit are showing more cases of a very contagious COVID-19 variant.
In an update Wednesday, the health unit revealed 133 people have tested positive for the variant of concern UK B.1.1.7. An additional 86 cases have screened positive in an initial test and are awaiting confirmatory testing.
Among those is a person in a Collingwood apartment building where other cases are under investigation.
As of Wednesday there were 25 new COVID-19 cases across Simcoe County and Muskoka.
The health unit won’t know for several days whether any of those involve a variant strain.
There were eight cases in Barrie, one in Springwater and one in Oro-Medonte.
Wasaga Beach reported two new cases.
There was one new case in Muskoka involving a Gravenhurst resident.
