Saugeen Shores, Owen Sound and West Grey Police will be mentoring current Police Foundation students at Georgian College Owen Sound Campus.
Releases from the police services say students and officers will connect virtually and discuss topics including police response, next of kin notifications, mental health, victims of crime, domestic abuse and offences against children. During these sessions the officer can relate to the student their own professional experiences about the topics.
Saugeen Shores Police Chief Kevin Zettel says, “We are excited to partner with Georgian College to share our knowledge and experiences, with a united goal of developing our next generation of police officers.” he adds, “This will also be rewarding for our officers to mentor a young candidate and hopefully chart their progress.”
The mentorship will take place virtually and last for five weeks with the officer committing 6 to 10 hours of time with the student.
