Calling the U-K variant, “a very real and dangerous threat”, the mayor of Springwater Township has taken to YouTube, to urge residents of his community to stay home. Don Allen says testing has shown the more contagious form of the virus is showing up in Barrie, which is right on Springwater’s doorstep.
“The virus is not able to spread on its own. It takes people to spread it around. Therefore if we limit our movements, we limit the spread of the virus.” said the mayor.
The variant is believed to be responsible for a deadly outbreak at a Barrie long term care home and is starting to show up in other parts of the province as well.
