The MPP for Huron-Bruce says she is encouraged by current efforts to vaccinate the region’s residents against COVID-19.
Progressive Conservative Lisa Thompson’s comments come as vaccination efforts are underway for vulnerable populations in the region, including long-term care residents and staff.
“I anticipate by June, General [Rick] Hillier’s plan is to see eight million Ontarians vaccinated, and then the remainder through the rest of the year.”
There are delays this week with vaccine shipments across the country, as manufacturer Pfizer announced production issues at a European facility.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says vaccine distribution is expected to pick up in early February.
Thompson says she is confident the vaccine roll-out for Huron and Bruce counties will continue as planned.
“We have a great team at the helm working with our local public health units.”
“I anticipate by summer, into fall, the vaccine will be rolling through our area for individuals.”
