Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
With ” Stay At Home ” measures in effect and The Great Paul Hill forecasting his ” Polar Vortex ” with extreme winter weather, let’s take a break and look ahead.
The Golf Association of Ontario released their Championship Schedule for 2021, a sequence of tournaments for both genders in a variety of categories based sometimes on age, and sometimes on skill level.
The highlight events are always the Ontario Women’s and Men’s Amateur Championships, which this year will be conducted in the southwest.
The GAO Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championship will be staged June 15th-18th at Pointe West Golf Club in Amherstburg.
A month later, the 2021 Ontario Men’s Amateur Championship will be conducted at Beach Grove Golf & Country Club which is located in Windsor.
There are no Championship Tournaments being hosted in our immediate broadcast region this year although two courses will be the site for qualifying events.
On May 13th, Cobble Beach Golf Links will host a qualifier for the Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur. The top players from the Cobble Beach event will earn a berth at the Provincial Men’s Mid-Amateur which is in June at Taboo Golf Resort in Gravenhurst.
And Saugeen Golf Club will conduct a qualifier for the Ontario Senior Men’s Championship on June 27th.
The 2021 Provincial Senior Men’s Tournament is at Loyalist Golf & Country Club at Bath, Ontario near Kingston.
I don’t imagine anyone is playing competitive golf in Ontario today, but just 3 & 1/2 short months from now the 2021 GAO season commences.
I’m Fred Wallace
