The Canadian Red Cross has been deployed to a long-term care home in Barrie to help contain a massive COVID-19 outbreak.
There are currently 62 residents out of a total 122 at Roberta Place Long Term Care, who have tested positive for the virus, along with 43 staff members.
The death of nine residents at the home have also been linked to COVID-19.
Officials at the facility say a vaccination clinic was conducted at the home on Saturday, but they cannot confirm reports that the U.K variant of COVID-19 was responsible for the outbreak.
They say further testing is underway.
NDP leader Andrea Horwath is calling on Premier Doug Ford to call in the military to help Roberta Place and other homes in crisis across the province.
Over the weekend MOH Dr. Gardner issued an order under the HPPA that will support Roberta Place Long-Term Care Home in dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak. https://t.co/Zx8NEFOFRc pic.twitter.com/2Y751Kvt9u

Horrified to hear about the scope of the outbreak at Roberta Place in Barrie.
If I were premier today, I’d call in the Canadian Armed Forces and Red Cross, and I’m asking @fordnation to do the same — at Roberta Place and other homes in crisis. https://t.co/mpHrD2a3Z2— Andrea Horwath (@AndreaHorwath) January 17, 2021
